Reflections on EFMC-YMCS 2025, Porto
In early September I travelled to Porto to attend the EFMC Young Medicinal Chemists’ Symposium (YMCS). The conference gathered early-career researchers from across Europe, and it was a valuable opportunity to share my work and engage with the broader medicinal chemistry community.
As a ‘National Highlight’ from the UK, I presented both an oral talk and a poster. The poster focused on a recent paper published in Chemical Science (https://doi.org/10.1039/D4SC00995A). The oral presentation combined this theme with some of my recent results from the PhD. Both formats provided constructive feedback and prompted discussions that will be useful in shaping the next stages of my research, and I was pleased that my poster was recognised with a prize.
Beyond the sessions themselves, the symposium offered the chance to exchange ideas with researchers working on diverse challenges in medicinal chemistry and chemical biology. These conversations were particularly valuable in providing feedback on my own work and highlighting potential future directions.
I am grateful to the EFMC Young Scientists Network for organising an engaging and well-structured meeting, and to the RSC BMCS for supporting my attendance through travel funding.
